Some common installation errors on the MT5 trading platform.

This article outlines the causes and solutions for errors encountered when installing Experts Advisor on the MT5 platform.

Error 1: The Source Code Is Not Automatically Compiled Even After Copying The Source Code File From Experts..

Starting with MetaTrader 5 Build 5800 and later, all source code files no longer automatically compile to the .ex5 format. This is because MetaQuotes has gradually moved to a stricter model.

You are experiencing the following problem:

• Copy .mq5 into Experts → ❌ no auto-compile
• Click Reload Experts → ❌ still no compile

Solution:

Open in MetaEditor + F7 → ✅ compile → .ex5 created

Why it changed?

MetaQuotes has gradually moved to a stricter model:

• .ex5 = compiled binary (must be created by compiler)
• Terminal (MT5) = runtime only
• MetaEditor = compiler

So the terminal no longer acts as a compiler.

Older MT5 builds can still be used normally.

• Auto-compiled on restart
• Or when detecting new .mq5

If you want something “automatic”, you can:

Keep MetaEditor open

Enable: Tools → Options → Compile on save file

Then: Edit file → Ctrl+S → auto compile
